Train to Pakistan
After reading this book, I was thinking to write my personal review of this book. So, here I am ready to write my review on this book.
The book ‘Train to Pakistan‘ is a historical novel written by khushwant Singh which is published in 1956. It is a fictional book about the condition after the partition of India in 1947. khushwant Singh describes the situation of the village mano majra where Sikh and Muslims live peacefully but after dacoity and murder of Lala ram lal a member of the only Hindu family living in the village, the situation has changed. one day train from Pakistan halted at mano majra loaded thousands of bodies of refugees. The bad time came to mano majra. There is also a love story of a Sikh guy Juggut Singh and a Muslim girl Nooran whose separated by destiny. This book line “Muslims said the Hindu had planned and started the killing. according to Hindus, the Muslims were to blame. the fact is, both sides killed. both shots, both stabbed and spread and clubbed. both tortured. both raped.” describes the whole story.
The play based on this book has the same title “train to Pakistan” start with the first chapter “dacoity” was played at lamakaan in Hyderabad, India. The play was directed by khrisna Shukla. This play was staged three times, latest 26 August 2014. Different people have different view and review regarding play and movie.
The movie based on the book was released on 6 November 1998 with the same title “train to Pakistan” in the Hindi language. The movie was directed by Pamela Rooks. Nirmal Pandey as Juggut Singh, Jugga, Mohan Agashe as Hukum Chand, Rajit Kapoor as Igbal, Smitiri Mishra as Nooran, Divya Datta as the Muslim prostitute girl, mangel dillion as the sub-inspector were played the main characters in the movie.
